As a citizen and presidential candidate, I am committed to our country  and embarked to find solutions to problems which may arise. You know, my campaign is based on seeking common ground between citizens and government, so we can together reach satisfactory agreements. That’s why today, I want to share what I’ve researched about a virus that affects several Americans and deserves our attention.

The Zika is a virus transmitted by the bite of a mosquito. At the beginning of 2015, in Brazil, researchers studied what was causing physical discomfort to citizens and they were able to determine that it was Zika.

The presenting symptoms are:

· Fever

· Rash (small red marks on the skin)

· Joint pain

· Conjunctivitis (red eyes)

One of the most disturbing aspects of Zika is that a pregnant woman infected with the virus has the possibility to spread it to the baby and he or she can suffer complications.

According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in Brazil there has been an increase of children born with hydrocephalus after the mother contracted Zika during pregnancy. So, it is extremely important that pregnant and childbearing age women protect themselves from the bite of the mosquito.

Hopefully, according to information gathered by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, there has not been cases of local transmission of Zika in the United States. However, the cases of infection are from people who left the country and contracted the virus in other territories. There are 1657 confirmed cases. We must be vigilant because this virus also spreads through sexual transmission, so it is important to be careful when we have sexual relations with our partners.

In the territories of the United States this number rises to 4729 patients with confirmed cases and only 21 of these patients left the country. This is an alarming figure.

I invite you to take care of yourself, protect yourself from mosquito by using repellent all the time, sleeping with mosquito nets and if you are leaving the country, be even more cautious. If you know any case of Zika or suspect that a family member or you suffer it, immediately go to the nearest doctor. These cases should be reported. Beware! Precaution prevents further complications.
